15.  The University of Cyprus in the context of the project ‘Mavros Chrysos’ (Black Gold) planted in November 2017, more than 6,000 carob trees in the region of Oreites, in the province of Paphos.  The aim is to develop the largest bio-certified forest of carob trees.  Carobs have been cultivated in Cyprus since ancient times as a food source.  In the past they were a major agricultural export product of the island.  The carob tree begins to produce fruit when it is 6 to 15 years old and it can live and produce fruit until it is 100 years old. IPMT CoE has its own carob tree in the forest.  We are expecting IPMT CoE to flourish with our own carob tree. See
