Prof. M. Elena Hernando (female) is a full Professor at the Polytechnic University of Madrid and principal Researcher at Centro de Investigación en Red en Biomateriales, Bioingeniería y Nanomedicina, CIBER-BBN since 2018. She has developed her teaching and research activity in the field of Biomedical Engineering, at the Telecommunication School since 2000. She has participated in doctoral, master and bachelor teaching and was actively involved in their accreditation processes. She has been the Coordinator of the Biomedical Engineering Bachelor (2011-2018) and the Academic Secretary of the PhD program in Biomedical Engineering (2009-2013). Her research mainly focuses in the fields of technologies for patient care, providing technological solutions both for professionals and patients. Research works include information systems for home monitoring; the integration of medical devices in telemedicine systems; the artificial pancreas; artificial intelligence approaches for automatic data processing and decision support. She is author of 44 articles in international journals and more than 190 international and national conferences. She has been a principal investigator in 25 R&D projects (11 national / 4 European programs / 10 company contracts). She is a Senior Member of the IEEE since 2012 and member of the National Committee of the group CEN-TC251, AEN / CTN 139 Information Technologies and Communications for Health.
