Prof. Xavier Setoain Perego (male) is an associate professor at the Faculty of Medicine from the University of Barcelona and head of group at the Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red (CIBER-BBN). He is a medical doctor since 1990, and a specialist in nuclear medicine since 1995. On 2003, he obtained is PhD in medicine at the University of Barcelona. He is currently working as a senior consultant at the Nuclear Medicine Service at the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona. He did a scientific stage at the center for PET imaging at the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, USA), and after that he became the head of the unit for PET scans in hematology at the Hospital Clinic, where he performs both teaching and scientific tasks. Importantly, besides his implication in clinical studies, he is strongly interested in the technical aspects of PET acquisition and analysis as well as in developing methodologies for its integration with other modalities such as SPECT or MRI. His work on the location of the epileptogenic zone for epilepsy surgery with PET and SPECT has led to several patents and numerous international publications.
